WHAT WE BELIEVE

Vision | Mission | Statement of Beliefs

We exist to make disciples who love God,
love one another, and make His love known.

Vision: Make Disciples

We help people become more holistic devoted followers of Jesus by means of thinking, loving, and living like Jesus in our everyday lives.

  • We always look to scripture as our lens and foundation of truth.

We encourage wrestling with questions, trusting God's Spirit to transform our lives.

We equip people through spiritual practices, resources, and ongoing learning.

We replace influences that shape our mind and ethics with Christ-like thinking.

  • We offer our whole selves in acts of worship.

We go out of our way to be generous.

We move towards people no matter their background, history, or story.

  • We pursue life change in community.

We engage in practices that cultivate intimacy with Jesus and others.

We build bridges into our community to demonstrate and declare Jesus’ love.

Mission

Three marks of our mission in action by means of discipleship.

  • We believe that God’s unconditional and unearned love for us is the foundation for everything. It is the basis of our identity, security, and significance which produces the love that flows out of us. Because of God’s love for us, we pursue loving Him with our whole selves, holding nothing back. We dismantle compartmentalized living seeing every sphere of life as an opportunity to express our love for and worship of God.

  • God’s love for us not only changes the way we see ourselves, but it also changes our hearts to love what He loves and to love like He loves. We pursue loving others as we have been loved by Jesus, pursuing authentic and intentional community, living openly, honestly, and vulnerably with one another, and demonstrating love by responding to the various needs that arise in everyday life.

  • The very heart of God is that all people would know and experience His love, justice, and redemption. We believe that an essential response to God’s work in our lives is to extend God’s love to everyone, everywhere. We believe in empowering people, communities, and our church to move toward those who have yet to experience God’s redemptive love for them. We seek to pursue justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God as we join in His mission.

 Statement of Beliefs

  • We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired and infallible Word — His loving message to all people. It was written by human authors, but it was directly inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit. Because it comes from God, we can trust it completely. It is the supreme source of truth and authority for Christian beliefs and living.

    2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160; 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

  • We believe in one God who is the loving and powerful Creator and Ruler of all things. He has existed forever and will exist forever. There is one God who exists in three, co-equal persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The triune God is in perfect community within Himself.

    Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

  • We believe that Jesus is God’s eternal Son — fully God and fully human. He lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after 3 days, demonstrating His power and victory over sin, shame, and death. He ascended back to Heaven and will return again to reign as Lord of all.

    Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13

  • We believe the Holy Spirit is God, equal with the Father and the Son. His role is to show us our need for Jesus and to empower us to live a new life. He indwells every Christian from the moment of saying yes to following Jesus. The Spirit guides us into all truth, transforms us from the inside, and helps us follow Jesus daily.

     2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

  • People were created in the image of God — designed to reflect His character and to live in a loving relationship with Him. We were created to be whole and harmonious in relationship with God, oneself, others, and the earth. But we chose to rebel against God’s way which is sin. Our sin and the effects of sin have broken and shattered the life we were created for. We now live in a world that Is not as it should be. Nevertheless, God still loves each person and desires us to be restored to Him.

     Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

  • Salvation is the gift of God’s grace and loving forgiveness to people. Salvation is not based on human effort, morality, or religious devotion. While people are helpless to save oneself, the good news of the Gospel is that Jesus lived the perfect life that we could never live, died the death that we deserved to die, and rose from the dead, all who place their faith in Jesus and what He has done on our behalf, receive God’s forgiveness and are reconciled to God. Not only does Jesus provide forgiveness of sins, but He also promises to make us new, living a life of freedom, security, and flourishing in Him. The moment we believe, we become children of God and eternal life starts immediately.

    Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

  • We believe the Church is not a building or an institution, but a family — a community of people who have put their faith in Jesus and are called together by God. The Church is the body of Christ on earth, His hands and feet, meant to love, serve, and bring hope to the world. We gather to worship, to learn from Scripture, to care for one another, and to live out God’s mission together.

We believe in the significance of the church scattered, when the people of New Bridge live out their faith in the natural environments of daily life.

We also believe God has given each believer unique spiritual gifts to serve and strengthen His people. Everyone has a role to play in growing and serving the body of Christ, using their gifts to glorify God and help the whole community flourish.

We believe that men and women can serve in positions of leadership as well as preach with the same qualifications and expectations.

    Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 4:11-15; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25; Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Peter 2:9-10; 1 Peter 4:10-11; Romans 12:4-8

  • Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in the salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

     John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

  • We were created to live forever — either with God or separated from Him eternally. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. The wonderful hope we have is eternal life with God through Jesus. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life is Heaven.

    John 3:16; 1 John 2:25; 1 John 5:11-13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 18:8; 25:44, 46
